Tim Urquhart

President, Slegg Building Materials and Home Lumber & Building Supplies

Tim Urquhart has over 35 years of senior business experience in the Canadian Building Materials Industry. Tim began his career with a hardwood plywood wholesale company in Mississauga, Ontario. It was here that his passion for the industry was first discovered. He went on to join Goodfellow Lumber, Ontario in Outside Sales, managing a wide range of lumber products, including Spruce-Pine-Fir, hardwoods, pressure-treated, cedar and redwood. His experience in the contractor/retail supply side of the business began when he accepted a position to oversee Brampton Lumber. The business grew to include 3 Home Hardware Building Centres in Brampton and Weston, Ontario.

From 1999 through 2003 he was Vice President of Western Canada, based in Calgary, for Guardian / Cameron Ashley Building Products (included branches in Victoria and Nanaimo).

From 2003 to 2013 he was CEO of the TIM-BR Mart Buying Group headquartered in Calgary, Alberta. He reported to Ron Slegg, Chairman of the Board. During that 10-year period the Group grew from $600 million in revenue and 140 locations in Western Canada to $2.2 billion with 750 locations from coast to coast.

He has been President of Slegg Building Materials on Vancouver Island since 2014 and President of Home Lumber since its acquisition in 2023. He originally came on board with Ron and Bob Slegg to sell the Slegg business. He stayed on after the sale to Titan and once again after being acquired by GMS.

Tim has completed the Directors Education Program at the University of Calgary-Haskayne School of Business and is a member of the Institute of Corporate Directors. He was a Director of Cordy Environmental Services in Calgary from 2011 through 2022. He was a member of the Cordy Audit Committee, and Compensation and Governance Committee. He has been a Director of The Vancouver Island South Film and Media Commission in Victoria since 2022.
